Karajan artists in interview: Ferruccio Furlanetto
Bass-baritone Ferruccio Furlanetto is a singer in great demand, especially for Verdi’s sinister guys, such as Sparafucile and the Grande Inquisitore, and for Mozart.
He was Leporello in Karajan’s last “Don Giovanni” production and he had two once-in-a-lifetime-performances with Mozart – the “Coronation Mass” with Karajan as part of a complete mass with the Pope at St Peter’s in 1985, and the Mozart Requiem as a memorial service for Karajan in Salzburg cathedral, a week after Karajan’s death in 1989. Watch Julia Binek’s entire interview with him here.
