Karajan artists: Cesare Siepi – an irresistible Don Giovanni

Cesare Siepi was widely admired as Don Giovanni. He sang the part at the Vienna State Opera more often than any other singer after World War II (except Eberhard Waechter) but only once with Karajan. They collaborated in two Verdi productions, both in 1958, which were recorded and are still available: “Don Carlo” (with Siepi as Filippo II, Jurinac, Bastianini, Fernandi) and the Requiem (with Rysanek, Ludwig, Zampieri). After a long international career, Siepi died in 2010.
